The Interplay Between Consumer Preferences for Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Energy Supply
The rise in the adoption of vehicles powered by alternative fuels in Israel necessitates investments in infrastructure and technology. To adequately prepare for the widespread adoption of advanced propulsion technologies, it is essential to study consumer behavior and the factors influencing the shift to vehicles with alternative fuel sources, along with their energetic and environmental impacts.
A collaborative research effort between the Archimedes Center and the IIASA Research Institute in Vienna examined the interplay between energy and transportation within the Israeli economy. The study specifically assessed the economic and environmental outcomes of introducing advanced vehicle propulsion technologies into Israel and their effects on the energy sector. The research utilized a distinctive behavior model for consumer preferences, which was incorporated into an advanced techno-economic model in the energy and transportation sector known as MESSAGEix_IL-Transport.
The research results enable the creation and execution of policy initiatives related to energy infrastructure, transportation, and environmental protection. Furthermore, the findings assist in planning policies to promote the adoption of vehicles equipped with advanced propulsion technologies, as well as in setting optimal market entry targets that align with future infrastructure development plans.

איילת דוידוביץ היא חוקרת במרכז ארכימדס, אוניברסיטת תל אביב. מחקרה של ד"ר דוידוביץ' מתמקד בכלכלת סביבה, במיוחד בכלכלת אנרגיה, מודלים של אנרגיה-תחבורה ושינויי אקלים.
החל משנת 2020, היא פוסט-דוקטורנטית במעבדה יישומית של IE לחדשנות באקולוגיה תעשייתית ובמרכז ארכימדס. בנוסף, היא חברה בצוות הכלכלי של מיזם אקלים באוניברסיטת ת"א.
ד"ר איילת דוידוביץ שימשה בעבר כחוקרת פוסט-דוקטורט בתוכנית IIASA-Israel במסגרת תחום האנרגיה , אקלים וסביבה (ECE) במכון הבינלאומי לניתוח מערכות יישומיות (IIASA). בעבר הייתה ד"ר דוידוביץ' חוקרת בכירה במרכז לחקר משאבי הטבע והסביבה (NRERC) של אוניברסיטת חיפה בישראל.
ד"ר דוידוביץ' קיבלה את הדוקטורט שלה בניהול משאבי טבע וסביבה מאוניברסיטת חיפה, תואר שני במדעי ההתנהגות והניהול מהטכניון, ותואר ראשון בכלכלה וניהול.
About the researchers
Dr. Ayelet Davidovitc
Ayelet Davidovitch is a researcher at the Archimedes Center, Tel Aviv University. Dr. Davidovitch’s research focuses on environmental economics, particularly on energy economics assessments, transport-energy modeling, and climate change.
In 2020, she became a postdoctoral researcher at the IE Applied Lab for Innovation in Industrial Ecology and the Archimedes Center. She is additionally part of the economy team within the TAU climate initiative "Plannet Zero".
Dr. Ayelet Davidovitch previously served as an IIASA-Israel Program Postdoctoral Researcher within the Energy, Climate and Environment (ECE) program at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). Previously, Dr. Davidovitch was a senior researcher at the University of Haifa's Natural Resources and Environmental Research Centre (NRERC) in Israel.
Dr. Davidovitch earned her Ph.D. in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from the University of Haifa in Israel, M.Sc. in Behavioral and Management Sciences from the Technion, and a B.A. in Economics and Management.
