לאחרונה ביקר במכון פרופ׳ רון מילוא, מהמחלקה למדעי הצמח והסביבה במכון ויצמן למדע, כדי לדון בפרויקטים מחקריים מתמשכים ולחקור שיתופי פעולה עתידיים עם מכון IIASA. פרופ׳ ורד בלאס, מנהלת שיתוף הפעולה של מרכז ארכימדס עם מכון IIASA השתתפה בפגישה עם פרופ׳ מילוא, אלברט ואן ז'ארסוולד - מנכ"ל IIASA, מנהל תכנית האנרגיה, האקלים והסביבה קיואן ריאהי, ראש תחום תקשורת ויחסי חוץ ברברה קרייסלר.
מילוא ערך סמינר שכותרתו "הפצת ביומסה על כדור הארץ והשפעת האנושות" בו התייחס לעובדה שמפקד הביומסה על פני כדור הארץ הוא המפתח להבנת המבנה והדינמיקה של הביוספרה. עם זאת, עדיין חסרה השקפה גלובלית כמותית של האופן שבו הביומסה של קבוצות ביולוגיות שונות משתווה זו לזו. מילוא הציג דרך להרכיב את הרכב הביומסה הכולל של הביוספרה, וביסס את המפקד הראשון של הביומסה של כל ממלכות החיים. לסיום הוא דן בהשפעות מרחיקות לכת של האנושות באמצעות המחקר שלו על קיימות המערכות הביולוגיות. לבסוף, קבוצת חוקרים מ-IIASA השתתפו במפגש השאלות והתשובות שלאחר מכן, ושיתפו ידע ורעיונות לשיתופי פעולה פוטנציאליים.

The Archimedes Center encourages Israeli climate scientists to visit the IIASA Institute and strengthen the scientific cooperation.
Prof. Ron Milo, from the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the Weizmann Institute of Science, recently visited the Institute to discuss ongoing research projects and explore future collaborations with the IIASA Institute. Prof. Verd Blas, director of the collaboration of the Archimedes Center with the IIASA Institute participated in a meeting with Prof. Milo, Albert Van Jaarsveld - Director General of IIASA, Director of the Energy, Climate and Environment Program Keywan Riahi, Head of Communications and External Relations Barbara Kreissler.
Roee Ben Nissan is a PhD student in the Milo lab and a Sustainability and Alternative Energy Research Initiative fellow at the Weizmann Institute of Science. He received a BSC with honors in Life Science from Ben Gurion University of the Negev and an MSc in Life Science at the Weizmann Institute of Science, under the supervision of Prof. Ron Milo. In his PhD, Roee works on carbon fixation metabolism in bacteria. During his MSc and PhD, Roee has been part of an effort of converting E. coli, a sugar dependent model bacterium, to consume CO2 as its sole carbon source for constructing the cell building blocks and characterizing the genetic and metabolic changes allowing for this transition.
